I'd replace the cactus with some brown and yellow focused woody themed shaft maybe something based on his boot, with the spur as the teeth, something based on his shirt pattern, or the matchstick from the first movie, and I'd replace the keychain with something more iconic like the bouncy ball. Get rid of the cactus and you have a nice split of a white and blue focused spaceship themed handle with a yellow and brown focused cowboy themed blade. The purple, green, and red on the ship design are accent colors more than anything, and you can get away with adding black anywhere. Black, blue, white, red, brown, yellow, purple, and green is a lot. I get that cactus is supposed to be emblematic of woody but with everything else being a personal effect of his and the cactus just being associated with the desert backdrop it feels tenuous. I like the handle, I like the sheriff's star as the key teeth, and I like the buzz and woody combo design, but the cactus messes it all up.įirst off, you've got three different designs spaceship, cowboy, and cactus. Basically the old school transformers triple changer problem, 1 form has to suffer so the others look amazing. Long story short it feels like Kh3 keyblades "look bad" because they have to make up for the fact they also transform into other things. The favorite deputy (and by extension timeless river reskin) has great keyblade transformations because it being "toy-like" works so well with it being the representation of toystory world. Usually, in past games, keyblades usually fall into 2 categories, "obviously a weapon," and "that's just a key."įunnily enough, the keyblade transformations actually work better than the base keyblade designs because they aren’t hamstrung to look vaguely key shaped. As a tokusatsu fan (more specifically kamen rider), you can tell the difference between seasons that quite blatantly are trying to sell toys vs ones where there's at least a reason for them to be so toy-like. It's not that this keyblade has too much going on, but like a lot of keyblades in 3, it doesn't look like a key nor blade but more like how a marketable toy looks. Honestly, reading the comments makes me feel like people focus too much on theming as opposed to the functionality of the design.
